ANTHONY GEORGIEFF

ANTHONY GEORGIEFF was born in 1963 and studied English until the beginning of 1989 when the end of Communism stilled seemed imaginary, which persuaded him to flee the country and settle in the West. He managed to get himself from East Berlin into Denmark, and soon got his first job with the BBC World Service in London. Having moved on to Radio Free Europe in Munich and in Prague, he returned to Copenhagen in the late 1990s where he made a successful career as freelance journalist, photographer and writer.

In 2002 he returned to Bulgaria and became the executive editor of the Bulgarian version of the Playboy magazine. He left in 2003 and started Vagabond Media. In 2011 it runs three magazines: Vagabond, Bulgaria's English Monthly; Highflights, Bulgaria's Airport Magazine; and Go Greece!, Bulgaria's Magazine about Greece.

Anthony Georgieff has so far written (and photographed) three non-fiction books: Hidden Treasures of Bulgaria (2005); East of Constantinople/Travels in Unknown Turkey (2008); and Jewish Bulgaria (2011). His first novel, Vienna, was published in 2001.
