ELIZABETH KOSTOVA

ELIZABETH KOSTOVA holds degrees from Yale University and the University of Michigan. She has published fiction, poetry, and essays. Her first novel, The Historian (Little, Brown, U.S./Ciela, Bulgaria), set partly in Bulgaria, has been translated into 40 languages and has sold nearly five million copies worldwide. Her second novel, The Swan Thieves, was published by Little, Brown in January 2010. She lives in the U.S., where she teaches fiction writing at the University of Michigan's Bear River summer seminar. She has also taught in the MFA Program at the University of North Carolina (Wilmington).

Elizabeth Kostova has a strong interest in Bulgarian history, literature, and culture and is co-founder (with Svetlozar Zhelev) of the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation for Creative Writing.
